How to Record Your Video (It’s Super Easy!)

We’re asking KGNU supporters to record a short video (30–60 seconds) sharing what KGNU means to you, as part of Public Media Giving Days. No fancy tech needed — just your phone, your voice, and a little light!

Quick Tips for Recording:

  • Use your phone. Open the camera app — no special equipment needed!
  • Record vertically (hold your phone up and down) — best for Instagram and other social media.
  • Find good light. Face a window or lamp so your face is bright and clear. Avoid backlighting.
  • Keep it quiet. Turn off the TV, music, etc.
  • Keep it steady. Prop your phone against a book, cup, or wall — or have someone hold it.
  • Relax and be yourself. Speak from the heart and smile!

Video Script Options

Option 1: What KGNU Means to Me (Personal, heartfelt)

"Hey friends! I just wanted to share a little something about why KGNU means so much to me. It’s more than just radio — it’s community, it’s connection, it’s independent voices and music you won’t hear anywhere else. This week is Public Media Giving Days, and I’m joining in by sharing why I love KGNU. If it’s part of your life too, help us spread the word — share your story and use the hashtags #KGNU and #PublicMediaGives! Want to do even more? Donate to KGNU today — it only takes 2 minutes: kgnu.org"

Option 2: Pass It On (Light, energetic)

"We all share stuff on social media — cat videos, playlists, memes… but what about content with real substance? For me, that’s KGNU. Whether it's music, news, or hearing local voices, it makes a difference in my day. That’s why I’m shouting it out for Public Media Giving Days. Take a minute to post what YOU love about KGNU — it really helps! Use #KGNU and #PublicMediaGives. And if you can, donate: kgnu.org"

Option 3: My First KGNU Moment (Nostalgic, storytelling)

"I still remember the first time I tuned into KGNU — I heard [insert moment/song/show], and I’ve been hooked ever since. Public radio like KGNU brings something truly special to our community. As part of Public Media Giving Days, I’m asking you to share your KGNU moment too. Post your story with #KGNU and #PublicMediaGives. And if KGNU means something to you, donate now: kgnu.org"

Option 4: Why I Support Public Media (Direct, advocate-style)

"Public media matters — and KGNU is living proof. It’s grassroots, community-powered, and listener-funded. Right now, during Public Media Giving Days, I’m encouraging everyone to support it. A quick post with #KGNU and #PublicMediaGives helps spread the love. Or even better — Make a donation today: kgnu.org"
