Show Transitions COVID-19
Updated 08/19/2022
Arrival and setup
**Please note that KGNU’s doors continue to be locked at all times, and a key FOB or keycode is required to access the buildings. If you don’t already have this kind of access and need it, please fill out an After Hours Key Fob Request Form and get in touch with Evan Perkins at evan@kgnu.org as soon as possible.
Please be respectful during show transitions and ask the current host in the studio if it’s okay to enter the room before you do.
If you are unvaccinated, you must wear a mask during show transitions, and inside of any other shared spaces at KGNU.
Sanitizing Surfaces
All hosts should sanitize all surfaces - mic, board, CD player buttons, physical CD cases, phone, headphones, keyboards, mouses, and anything that you will touch - in the studio with the available wipes when they first enter the studio and right before they leave the studio.
After Your Show
Check the DJ Schedule (kgnu.org/djschedule) to see what is scheduled after your show. Shows that are prerecorded (PRERECORDED) or from the Denver studio (DEN) will be listed as such.
- If there is a live DJ/host after you in the same studio:
- Please thoroughly sanitize all surfaces at least 5 minutes before the show transition.
- Speak with the next DJ about the show transition while maintaining 3 ft of distance (the following DJ should wait outside the Studio). If you are both vaccinated and feel comfortable being in the studio together for the show transition, you may enter.
- If there is no live DJ/host after you, either our automated system (LibreTime) or silence detector will handle the programming automatically your show ends, so all you need to do is leave the board silent when your show ends and either LibreTime or the silence detector will kick on. Please note:
- If there is no planned show after yours (will be indicated as "???"), the Silence Detector will turn on automatically after 35 seconds of silence.
- If there is a prerecorded show planned after yours, it will turn on automatically on LibreTime. It sometimes takes 30-60 seconds after the hour to buffer and load, so please listen for it to turn on and fade out your music when you hear it. For this reason and to facilitate a smooth transition, we recommend that you end your show with music and not a voice break.
Moreover, if you are broadcasting live from the Red Studio in Boulder, before you leave the studio, please ensure that the Denver channel and LibreTime channel are all potted up and turned on. All should be taped on permanently.
Mic Covers
We recommend that hosts bring their own mic screens/covers if they have them. Please clean your mic cover at home before each show.
If you do not have your own mic cover, we have provided disposable mic covers that look like this that you can use for your show. They will be available in the studio. These are to be placed directly on the mic or over the existing windscreen. Please only take one, as we have a limited supply. Please make sure to dispose of your mic cover before the next host comes into the studio.
We also have washable mic covers for use. If you use a washable mic cover, please make sure you properly wash it in the sink and leave it to dry in the drying rack before you leave the station. DO NOT LEAVE MIC COVERS IN THE SINK!
Clean Up Before You Leave
You must return any used CD’s or LP’s to their place of origin. Do not leave them in the studios or in the hallways. We need you to remove any dishes that you have used during your time at the station, put dirty dishes in the dishwasher or wash them. Do NOT leave them in the sink. You are responsible for cleaning up after any authorized guest that you may have hosted at the station, i.e. clean their dishes! Leave no trace, pack it out. If you use it, put it away or clean it. Do not leave stuff lying around. Help us reopen as quickly as possible by helping to keep it clean and hygienic.
